Part IV of my Arcane vs Aristotle Deep Dive
A great guide for how to draw anime character anatomy!
The Airship: We have lift-off!
I am excited to finally announce that I have a publisher for my comic, The Airship!!!
I have signed a contract with CEX Publishing to print and distribute my completed comic in 2023. CEX is a comic book publishing company started by Andy Schmidt at Comics Experience with a focus on original, creator-owned comics, and it should be a perfect fit for my first official comic book.
This comic has involved a lot of work and support from friends and professionals at all levels, so I am very proud it will have the backing of a publishing company. We are currently over halfway through completing the pages for the comic, so I can’t wait to share more!
Cosmic Journeys Anthology:
Aside from The Airship, also be sure to check out the first volumes of the Panelsmiths’ anthology, Cosmic Journeys, available here now! To learn more, you can follow our instagram or our cool new substack to read interviews with the artists and see behind the scenes art. We have a new volume being released next week on Kindle, and the volume at the end of the month will contain a comic called Alfie’s Tail with art by yours truly!
Sterling’s Deep Dives:
Arcane vs Aristotle: Part IV
In this part, I am covering Aristotle’s four types of tragic incidents which he ranks from best to worst. I apply them to Powder’s character arc in the first three episodes of Arcane to show why her arc is so well written.
SIDE NOTE: I know I promised this sooner, but I hope the wait will be worth it, (lone reader who actually loves this deep dive as much as I do.) This study has gotten much more advanced than I thought it would, and my analysis has stretched from my planned two parts into six parts. So apologies for anyone hoping to understand ol’ Aristotle in less time, but I think this is probable and necessary.
Unknown Japan:
Discovering Japanese Horror in Two Classic Films
It’s creepy season so why not explore how they get the creeps in Japan?! That’s what I’ve been doing with a couple classic horror films I watched on HBO Max. (Restless nightmares almost guaranteed.)
Secret Arts & Forbidden Knowledge:
Drawing Tips for Anime Characters and Coloring in Clip Studio
BEGINNING ARTISTS! If you are interested in drawing anime characters, I came across this great resource to help with building cartoon anatomy. Plus a great video from one of my favorite Youtubers, Color with Kurt, showing his entire comic book page coloring process from beginning to end.
