Why subscribe?

Next Stop Unknown is a newsletter that will share my learning experience turning my scripts and artwork about paranormal lore into published comic books. Interested in writing and publishing your own stories? Curious about art and the creative process in general? Do you like Bigfoot as much as you like UFOs? Then this newsletter is for you, friend!

Why the name?

Next Stop Unknown is a double-entendre referring to my interest in mysteries of the unknown as well as my attempts to navigate the (for me) uncharted waters of comic book publishing. At the beginning of 2021, I made a commitment to myself to publish my first traditional comic book within the year. Almost a year later, I hired a team that will be producing my first one-shot comic book, The Airship, inspired by the mysterious airship wave of 1896-97. It’s not published yet, but I am on course—and I want to share this journey with you!

What’s in it for you?

My learning experiences, my community, and hopefully some worthwhile entertainment!

In just one year, I learned so much I never knew about the business of comics, my writing process, and what it takes to persevere creatively in a post-pandemic world. I have gathered some amazing lessons and resources, and I have also had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly talented peers and mentors. All this means I have information and connections that could be valuable to anyone with similar goals to mine. Or anyone just looking for inspiration to make their own creative projects!

In addition to updates on The Airship (behind the scenes plans, marketing plans, maybe some advance artwork?), I will also share:

  • Resources I have found helpful for writing, drawing, and publishing

  • Updates on my other projects (New art? Finished comics? One way to find out!)

  • Some of my older comics, characters, and comic strips that led me to my latest endeavors

  • Tutorials and input from other experts on writing, drawing, and the business of comics

  • Special offers on art, merch, and early-bird discounts for my latest work

  • Recommendations for artists, shows, and books I am enjoying (or not enjoying)

  • And only the best (or most amusing) UFO, ghost, and cryptid sightings from around the world. (Yeah, I keep up with that stuff, so get your yarn and blurry photos ready!)

What’s the commitment looking like here?

For now, this newsletter is completely free! If I find there is a time when some material requires a paywall, early subscribers will be the first to know and likely benefit from an early-bird discount. (However, let’s just see how the free version works for awhile, shall we?)

My plan is to keep the newsletters informative and brief. So if you just want to check out the latest comic I share or Bigfoot photo, I won’t make you scroll forever for the good stuff. But if you like an occasional long-form essay by me or a guest about art theory, techniques, and crafting good stories, I’ll be sure to make special links for you nerds. (And discussion boards!)

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox. I’ll try making it bi-weekly to start, but this is a work in progress until I find my groove. I hope you’ll join me on this journey to learn more about getting stories out of your head and into the world.
