Hello, friends! Lots going on with my work, so I’ll just get right to it:
Colored and lettered pages are starting to come in for my 20 page one shot, The Airship, and they look gorgeous! Nico is doing an amazing job. We’re still a long ways off from completion, but things are on track and looking great!
My 8 page script, The Encounter Before, is in the process of being illustrated by Viktor Farro (@viktorfarro.) We are collaborating to produce a story for our recently named comics collective team, The Panelsmiths! This anthology (currently titled Cosmic Journeys) will be sci-fi themed and include 10-12 original comic short stories. The plan is to publish digitally on a platform like Comixology (now being run out of Amazon), and then eventually run a campaign to publish the anthology in print. The projected start date will be sometime at the end of summer, so I’ll keep you posted with more info to come!
In addition to my written script, I am going to be drawing a two page script for the anthology featuring The Panelsmiths’ mascot, Alfie! This script is written by the talented Greg Tjosvold (@gregtjosvold) who has written and published his own sci-fi story called the Lump Sum Saga. It’s uniquely adorable, and I highly recommend it!
Unknown Japan: Discovering Anime & Manga
There Be Ghosts in These Animes!
In this edition of Unknown Japan, I focus specifically on animes that revolve around ghosts and haunted places! Each series I review has its own unique take on the spirit world: some are creepy, some are silly, and some are… heavy on social commentary? I’ve got all your bases covered if you’re looking for something scary, heartfelt, or just plain weird to watch on the weekend.
Sterling’s Deep Dives:
Where Do Stories Come From? Part II!
In this deep dive, I am breaking down how I approach story structure when writing a new story. Some of it may be familiar, but I have some unique practices that I hope may open some doors for your own writing.
